Reader’s Question:

A life insurance salesman told me that I should go with a whole life insurance plan here in Houston, Texas. Aren’t whole life insurance policies for old people only?

Norris

Houston, TX

Whole life insurance policies are not necessarily just for the elderly or senior citizens. In fact, these days almost anyone can get a life insurance policy. However, that doesn’t mean that you have to jump into the very first offer presented to you there in Houston, Texas. One of the most important things to remember when buying life insurance is to purchase a policy that best addresses your financial goals and requirements, especially in the long run.

You could very well benefit a lot from a whole life insurance policy, even while you are still young. But is this what you need? Do you think that life insurance agent had your best interest in mind when he or she offered you a whole life insurance? Were you asked about your present circumstances, whether you only need insurance only because of a hazardous job or if you prefer to accumulate money under your policy in the long-run? Or did the agent just go into all the bells and whistles of a whole life policy? If it was the latter, I recommend you talk to a different agent for your life insurance needs.

Whole life insurance works best if you plan to keep insurance in the long run, but if you only need temporary coverage while taking care of long-term financial obligations (e.g: mortgage, loans, tuitions) then you may benefit more with a term life insurance policy.

Reader’s Question:

How do I know if it’s time for me to get a life insurance provider here in Houston, Texas?

Sheila

Houston, TX

Life insurance is an important and effective financial tool so it is very important to recognize at which stage of your life you would need to get a life insurance policy. Here are a few things to ask yourself to see if you already need to start talking to a life insurance agent there in Houston, Texas or shop online:

1. Are there anyone depending on my income for their daily living?
2. Do I have any long-term debts like student loans, auto loans, and mortgages that I would be paying for the next ten to twenty years?
3. Am I raising a small family, putting children to school or paying for an elderly loved-one’s health care?
4. Does my job frequently put me into situations or conditions that are hazardous to my health and life?
5. Do I want to make sure are funeral costs are covered by the time I die?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you should definitely consider getting a life insurance policy. If you are still young and relatively healthy you may be interested to get a term life insurance policy which is cheaper compared to other forms of life insurance and would only need to be maintained for a set period of time. If you are already nearing retirement you may benefit from, and save money with, a whole life insurance policy that gives a stable rate and may even accumulate interest over time.

Senior Citizen Life Insurance Coverage Houston Texas TX

Reader’s Question:

Is it already too late for my father, who is already a senior citizen here in Houston, Texas, to get a life insurance policy?

Park

Houston, TX

It is almost always never too late for anyone, even your elderly father there in Houston, Texas, to get life insurance coverage. The only factors foreseeable that could prevent your father from getting life insurance coverage is if he is already too old (80 to 90 years old) or has a pre-existing medical condition or suffering from a severe or terminal illness, in which case a very limited number of life insurance providers will be able to give him coverage, if he does get approved, and with steep premiums. (Although he may still choose to get life insurance, if only to cover funeral expenses).

If your father is around 50 to 70 and is relatively healthy for his age, life insurance coverage may still be a good idea. It is recommended that he choose a whole life insurance policy as compared to a term life insurance policy, since a whole life policy stays active as long as the insured is still alive and the premiums are still regularly paid. Some life insurance providers may opt to have your father undergo a medical exam and it is recommended that he does. There are No-exam Life insurance policies available but it will usually cost more. Also, not all life insurance providers have the same rates so do shop around for the best rates available for your father. There is no reason why you have to pay too much on life insurance.
