Houston, TX

Now more than ever, with the uncertain economy and all, is life insurance such an important financial asset. The right kind of policy can save you a lot of money as well. Here are some tips to get you started:

Step 1: Find the Right Coverage Type

First, you have to know what type of policy fits you. Since you mentioned you don’t want to keep coverage forever, then a term life insurance plan is good for you. It’s relatively cheap considering the huge amount of face value or coverage it can give. Depending on the insurers, you can choose 5, 10, 15, 20, even 30-year terms. This is great for people who wish to get coverage while raising a family or paying-off mortgage.

Step 2: Determine the Right Amount of Coverage

Next, you should find out how much face value or coverage your policy should have. Do consider the following: Projected living expenses of your dependents for the next several years (at least), amount of annual income to be replaced, funeral costs, amount of money needed to settle debt and other financial obligations, and supplementing non-monetary assets like health insurance.

Step 3: Compare Your Options

Now that you know the type of policy and coverage suiting you, it’s now time to shop for the best policy. Online life insurance comparison websites (like this one) allows you to run free quote checks and compare rates coming from a wide-selection of life insurers. Doing this will save time, effort and maximize your chances of finding cheap life insurance online.

Step 4: Understand Your Policy

Before signing the agreement, please do read and understand the fine print carefully. Yes, it can be a drag but it will be an even bigger drag if your insurer decides to increase your rates, or not cover certain clauses in your policy in the future.

Good question. If chosen correctly, a life insurance policy can be one of the best financial assets you could have. This is especially true in these times of uncertainty. Listed below are some of the advantages of owning the right kind of life insurance:

1. Provides immediate financial support for your family or dependents during your sudden demise.

2. Can be used to accumulate wealth over the policyholder’s lifetime.

3. Allows you to earn interest on your policy’s cash-value, making your money grow without being taxed until you withdraw funds.

4. You can sell your life insurance policy in the future should you need money in the future. This is known as a viatical settlement.

5. Can protect your assets (e.g. Home) from repossession since the death benefit proceeds of your life insurance can be used to settle mortgage and other financial obligations.

6. Can provide financial protection for your business in the event of the loss of a key employee.

7. Death benefits and coverage can be adjusted to suit the needs of the policyholder at different life stages.

These are just some of the many more benefits that you can get for getting life insurance coverage. There are different types of policies (term, whole life, universal life, etc.) that you can select for your specific goals, requirements, or circumstances. Life insurance can give you the peace of mind knowing your loved ones are covered in case you make an early ‘exit’.

I want to buy life insurance but I don’t know what kind of policy I should look at. I don’t even have an idea where to go here in Houston, Texas for one. Any tips for a life insurance newbie like me?

Many first-time life insurance buyers find themselves at a loss as to how to find the best coverage. It is also very easy to get overwhelmed by the different types of policies available. So here is a guide to get you on level ground when it comes to buying the best life insurance Houston, Texas policy fitting your needs:

Types of Life Insurance Plans

Term Life Insurance – Affordable life coverage offering relatively significant death benefits with guaranteed premiums. Coverage term lasts a specific period of time only (e.g. 10, 20, 30-year terms).

Whole Life Insurance – This is a permanent kind of life insurance. Premiums are more expensive due to its cash-value feature which basically accumulates money into your policy over the years, making premiums much cheaper in the long-run. Policyholders can withdraw or borrow money from policy as well.

Universal Life Insurance – Similar to whole life policies but with more flexibility when it comes to premium payment. Also, it offers the potential for better cash-value growth thru the prevailing interest rates. Premium amounts can be changed according to what suits the policyholder most.

Variable Life Insurance – Combines the features of whole life insurance and mutual funds to build cash-value. Policyholder can choose how the cash-value is invested by the insurer to earn interest. This type of policy is more for the investment-savvy types.

Where to Buy Life Insurance

Once you find the right kind of policy suiting your needs, you would want to run a free life insurance quote check and compare life insurance Houston, Texas rates (or whatever state you reside in). This is the fastest and easiest way to compare the cheapest and latest rates coming from many different insurers today.

I want to get life insurance but I am new to it. I’m scared I might get a bad deal. What are the life insurances I can avail in Houston Texas? Any tips to remember in getting them?

Alex

Houston TX

There are many life insurance in Houston Texas. You can avail of a term life insurance or a whole life/universal life insurance.

Term life insurance is considered the most affordable among all types. This can help you protect your beneficiaries within the term. Therefore, expect that it would not cover you for the rest of your life not unless you extend it. However, sometimes they become more expensive as you age and some premiums decrease over time.

Whole life insurance protects your family until your last breath. What’s great about this is the cash accumulation. It is like a combination of investment and insurance. This can also help you earn tax savings from estates. . However, you should be able to keep up paying for it.

In buying insurance, here are points to remember:

If you don’t understand the policy, let insurance agents explain the policy in the simplest way or have it explained through illustrations.

Ask for the actual values rather than estimated ones. If it is a whole life insurance, let it be clear to you how your money increases its value over time.

Always get to know the agent who is selling you the insurance. You can always do background check of the company by asking the Texas Department of Insurance.

Always consider your monthly income and expenses before committing yourself in paying for the insurance. This way you will not end up being default in payments every month.

Always go for a term insurance that insures you 10-times your annual salary.

Also, bear in mind that certain term life insurance can be converted to permanent types. Even if you have the temporary insurance, check with your agents all possibilities. This will help you in managing your life insurance in Houston Texas better.

I want to buy the best life insurance in Houston, TX. Can you teach me how to do that?

Houston, TX

Certainly! With the many different types of life insurance policies available, it may be difficult to spot the right one unless you know why you want life insurance coverage in the first place. And, although “best” may be relatively defined, I’m sure you’ll agree that the best life insurance in Houston should meet the following criteria:

• The policy should reflect your future financial goals and needs.
• Should give the most coverage or face-value amount for the least amount of money.
• Should have competitively priced life insurance rates or premiums.
• Should come from an insurer who has long-term financial stability.

If you want financial security for your dependents while raising a family, or paying long-term obligations like mortgage, the best type of coverage would be a Term life insurance policy. This kind of life insurance is only meant to be kept for a certain period of time and is as simple and as straight-forward as it gets. If you prefer to have your money earn interest, and gradually accumulate in value and wealth while keeping permanent or lifetime life coverage, then Whole life insurance plans would be better.
To find the policy with the most coverage amount with the most competitive premiums, go to the Web. With thousands of dedicated websites or life insurance portals – like this website you’re on right now – getting to compare the latest rates and offers, coming from a wide variety of insurers is easier than ever! This maximizes your ability to spot the best deals and prices in the market today.

Use independent rating agencies like A.M Best (www.ambest.com) to find out which companies are the most stable and most likely to still be in business 10 to 50 years from now. Life insurance is a long-term commitment, lifetime even, and you want someone would still be around to take care of your beneficiaries financially.

A life insurance salesman told me that I should go with a whole life insurance plan here in Houston, Texas. Aren’t whole life insurance policies for old people only?

Norris

Houston, TX

Whole life insurance policies are not necessarily just for the elderly or senior citizens. In fact, these days almost anyone can get a life insurance policy. However, that doesn’t mean that you have to jump into the very first offer presented to you there in Houston, Texas. One of the most important things to remember when buying life insurance is to purchase a policy that best addresses your financial goals and requirements, especially in the long run.

You could very well benefit a lot from a whole life insurance policy, even while you are still young. But is this what you need? Do you think that life insurance agent had your best interest in mind when he or she offered you a whole life insurance? Were you asked about your present circumstances, whether you only need insurance only because of a hazardous job or if you prefer to accumulate money under your policy in the long-run? Or did the agent just go into all the bells and whistles of a whole life policy? If it was the latter, I recommend you talk to a different agent for your life insurance needs.

Whole life insurance works best if you plan to keep insurance in the long run, but if you only need temporary coverage while taking care of long-term financial obligations (e.g: mortgage, loans, tuitions) then you may benefit more with a term life insurance policy.

Reader’s Question:

How do I know if it’s time for me to get a life insurance provider here in Houston, Texas?

Sheila

Houston, TX

Life insurance is an important and effective financial tool so it is very important to recognize at which stage of your life you would need to get a life insurance policy. Here are a few things to ask yourself to see if you already need to start talking to a life insurance agent there in Houston, Texas or shop online:

1. Are there anyone depending on my income for their daily living?
2. Do I have any long-term debts like student loans, auto loans, and mortgages that I would be paying for the next ten to twenty years?
3. Am I raising a small family, putting children to school or paying for an elderly loved-one’s health care?
4. Does my job frequently put me into situations or conditions that are hazardous to my health and life?
5. Do I want to make sure are funeral costs are covered by the time I die?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you should definitely consider getting a life insurance policy. If you are still young and relatively healthy you may be interested to get a term life insurance policy which is cheaper compared to other forms of life insurance and would only need to be maintained for a set period of time. If you are already nearing retirement you may benefit from, and save money with, a whole life insurance policy that gives a stable rate and may even accumulate interest over time.

Reader’s Question:

Is it already too late for my father, who is already a senior citizen here in Houston, Texas, to get a life insurance policy?

Park

Houston, TX

It is almost always never too late for anyone, even your elderly father there in Houston, Texas, to get life insurance coverage. The only factors foreseeable that could prevent your father from getting life insurance coverage is if he is already too old (80 to 90 years old) or has a pre-existing medical condition or suffering from a severe or terminal illness, in which case a very limited number of life insurance providers will be able to give him coverage, if he does get approved, and with steep premiums. (Although he may still choose to get life insurance, if only to cover funeral expenses).

If your father is around 50 to 70 and is relatively healthy for his age, life insurance coverage may still be a good idea. It is recommended that he choose a whole life insurance policy as compared to a term life insurance policy, since a whole life policy stays active as long as the insured is still alive and the premiums are still regularly paid. Some life insurance providers may opt to have your father undergo a medical exam and it is recommended that he does. There are No-exam Life insurance policies available but it will usually cost more. Also, not all life insurance providers have the same rates so do shop around for the best rates available for your father. There is no reason why you have to pay too much on life insurance.

I have a job at a restaurant in Texas but I don’t think that I can afford a life insurance with my salary. What option do I have?

Houston, TX

I’m glad that you’re thinking about getting an insurance, Brianna. Understanding the need for a life insurance is usually the first step in purchasing a policy. You want your loved ones protected and taken care of if something unexpected should happen to you. But not everyone was born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Some people, like you, may not be able to afford the high costs of a permanent life insurance at this moment.

And so I would suggest that you consider getting a cheap term life insurance instead, until you can afford a permanent life insurance that would cover you for a lifetime. A term life insurance will give you death benefits in case you die suddenly. I think that you may be able to afford the low-cost insurance protection that a term life insurance provides. Many companies in Houston, Texas offer this type of life insurance with level premiums for a specified time period, usually from ten to thirty years, which would be agreed upon by you and your insurer. Although there is no cash value, you are secured and your family will get the benefits if you die within the duration of your policy. Aside from the affordable rates, you will also be able to convert that policy into a permanent life insurance without having to prove your insurability.

But once the duration of your policy ends, your term life insurance will be terminated unless you renew your policy. Just be ready for the annual increase in your premiums. Other than that, I think that term life insurance is the best option for you. It’s cheap but you’re sure of the protection you need! Give your agent a call and ask for more information.

My husband and I are both insured and we just gave birth to a pretty baby girl. How will this affect our life insurance rates in Houston, Texas?

Houston, TX

Well, I think not much. All you have to do is to designate a new beneficiary to your life insurance policy. You might want to consider merging yours and your husband’s life insurance to save on life insurance premiums. Designating a beneficiary can be done right after the birth of a child.

You can do that right away since giving birth can be overwhelming sometimes and you might overlook this after so many things to prepare for. Doing this at a later time might be more expensive, as children at age zero are cheaper to insure with most life insurance companies in Houston, Texas.

Although this might be the last thing that’s on your mind right now, when it comes to your life insurance, you need to determine what is covered by your insurance and how much is covered. Consider the type of coverage too. You can either choose a policy that expires over a prescribed period or term, in the form of term life insurance policy, or a life insurance that accrues cash value over time which is called permanent life insurance policies.

Try to talk to your local life insurance agent in Houston, TX and take time to understand what will be the most economical and practical option for you. Best that you shop for free quotes online first before you talk to your agent so you will have a benchmark for the prevailing life insurance rates these days. This website can help you do that if you type in your zip code on the form found in this page.
